Description:
Parent Effectiveness Training brings calm and harmony back into your home.
Held at Mount Lawley Primary School for 8 Saturdays from July 25th – September 12th
Time: 9.30am – 12.45pm
Whether you have a toddler striking out for independence or a teenager who has already started rebelling, you’ll find PET a compassionate, effective way to create a more balanced family environment.
Taken by millions of parents around the world in over 50 countries, PET has stood the test of time as one of the first and still one of the best parenting courses to raise communicative and responsible children.
Just imagine…. less anger, fewer power struggles, more cooperation and greater understanding of what drives behaviour. Parents learn to listen to their children to make them feel genuinely cared for and understood, and to speak in a way that encourages children to listen and communicate openly.
Over 8 weeks you will learn new skills and re-examine your parenting style so you can adjust to become a more self-aware and effective parent.
This course is presented by Counsellor and Parenting Coach Clare Christie from Harmony At Home.
For a full outline of the step-by-step eight week programme please email Clare on clare@harmonyathome.com.au with ‘PET Outline Please’ in the subject header.

The Circle is THE parenting ‘Roadmap’.

I get lots of wonderful feedback about the course.
“I just wanted to say a big thank you for the Circle of Security Course…
It really has made a big difference to the way we are parenting and has given us lots of new skills. Not only that but I think it’s great that we are now more on the same page in how we are parenting which has made a big difference.
You really were fantastic and I will pass the word on about what a great course it is!”
Chloe
“Circle of Security has had a profoundly positive effect on my family. When I enrolled, I was at my wit’s end, struggling to manage my son’s behaviour and my own frustration and feelings of guilt for yelling or using threats to try to get him to listen to me. Our home now really is harmonious, even with a child who is supposed to be going through the ‘terrible twos’. My relationship with my son has improved and everyone can see just how much more at ease he is. I shudder at the thought of where we might be in another two years without the insights and information I have learned. I explain the Circle of Security course to my friends as the ‘parenting manual you wish you had when you had your child’. I wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone.”

The Joyful Parent Workshop – Nollamara
July 26, 2014 – July 26, 2014
15 Mayfair Street
Description:
You are reading this because you have had enough of yelling, arguing and pleading with your children?
You thought parenting would be easier?
Parenting has changed – and it doesn’t have to be so hard.
If you are confused about how to handle your child’s behaviour – it is because the magnitude of information out there is very confusing.
Parenting doesn’t have to be so difficult and I can show you how to save time, reduce stress, build strong and honest relationships and enjoy your role as a parent.
Parents are exhausting themselves by buying into the myth that children should have a magical, wondrous and happy childhood and parents are neglecting their own needs and the needs of their significant adult relationships to keep the kids from acting up. Plus this approach doesn’t help to build respect or resilience.
If you are serious about making some changes and having a more relaxed family this workshop will kickstart a big change – mostly in your thinking, but you’ll also get lots of practical tips to make it much easier for yourself.
Be a part of this one day workshop with Clare Christie and you will learn how to stand up for yourself against the pressure coming from your children, connect from the heart, LISTEN, be real and take care of those feelings that potentially damage the relationships that matter the most.
Make a commitment to yourself and your family and book today – you deserve it and so do your children.
This workshop is suitable for parents with children of all ages because it’s about relationships and your value as a human being.

What Is Your Super Mum Superpower?
All single mum’s have special powers
I’m convinced single mothers develop a Superwoman gene in the few hours sleep they get. However, many women don’t yet know they have it.
Friends, families, children, colleagues all know these single mums have this special power, and can point in awe and say “How on earth does she do so much! She’s Superwoman!”
On a daily basis, the world over, single mothers are just getting done what needs to be done, building on their strength, courage and resourcefulness.
You can try to bring us down……
Kryptonite is planted or hidden in all areas of single mothers lives – in sleep deprivation, tantrums, illness, depression, bills to pay, food to cook (11,000 meals in 15 years!), ex partners, ‘out’-laws, government and a society that has been trained to objectify us as somehow choosing to be single unless you are a widow or wealthy. Kryptonite comes from all directions, internally in the form of self-doubt, guilt (that’s the strongest one) and the other life sucking stuff comes in the form of external judgement. BUT it can’t stop us superheroine sorts – we keep going.
I never cease to be shocked at the nasty diatribes towards of single mums in the government and media. But since I discovered my special powers I have a new theory.
I think they want to bring these Superwoman down because they fear our special powers as single Mums.
- They have found out about our amazing visual abilities to find things that are seemingly lost forever
- We could fix the economy tomorrow with our family budgeting skills
- They know we have amazing physical stamina and ability to stay awake during any crisis situation
- They have seen us get to 5 places in 30 minutes with the speed and accuracy of a hawk
- They know our mediation skills can end wars
- They are wowed by our ability to transform our feminine self into tough guy at a moment’s notice.
- They fear we have the power to take over the world because we are amazingly strong, resilient, resourceful, courageous, loving and can run in heels.
Begin to notice your super power – it’s important that you know you have it so we can put it to good use and save the world.
What is your special SuperPower?

Happy Mothers Day
To All Mums
Over the years I’ve spent wonderful times talking to lots of you.
I’ve seen just how much you love your children. I’m constantly blown away by what I see inside your hearts.
I’ve heard over and over again your worries about whether you are doing a good enough job.
You’ve shared with me your stories of struggle, hard work, exhaustion, emotional turmoil, coping with illness, grief and conflict. And yet you get up every day and get through it all because you know your children need you more than anything. It’s easy to forget how selfless this is. This is true love.
Many of you are working, studying, managing a home, relationship, children and too often putting your own needs at the bottom of the list.
What I’ve noticed more than anything is that you are far too hard on yourself. Please try to be kinder to yourself and appreciate all that you do.
Your dedication to your family is something to be celebrated and the difficult times are what make you grow stronger.
One day your children will marvel at how you managed to do so much and still find time to kiss them goodnight and tell them how much you love them every day.
If you asked your partner, best friend or close family, I know they would say how proud they are of you and how much you deserve a break.
This Mothers Day you may be thanked and recognised by others. I also want you to thank yourself and celebrate everything that you have done.
You’ve helped your children to grow. You’ve fed, clothed, washed, kissed, played, nursed, and cared for them.
You’ve nagged because in your heart you want them to be self-motivated.
You’ve been a Mum Taxi and driven them everywhere because you want them to feel safe and have many opportunities.
You’ve cried and made mistakes because you were learning about what works and what doesn’t work and sometimes that can take time. But you did learn.
You got up in the middle of the night even though you were exhausted because you knew in that moment they needed you a little bit more than you need sleep.
You’ve struggled through as best you can because you are strong and proud.
Whatever your family give you for Mothers Day, know that you totally deserve it every day and give it to yourself too.
Celebrate your love, dedication and really hard work and please know that being you is good enough.
Thank you.
Clare
5 Tips For Easier Parenting
Parenting can be easier
If you are parenting a screaming toddler or a teen who won’t listen or cooperate, I can guarantee that the following strategies will reduce tensions and bring you closer together.
1 Listen
Parents think that they are listening to children when really they are trying to educate, inform, dismiss, distract, blame, interrogate, correct, judge or ignore. The best clue is: if the emotional temperature rises from your response, it’s time to stop and listen. Learning to really listen will help you to understand your child and what makes them behave the way they do. To be blunt – it begins with shutting up. Be a mirror to what they are showing you – reflect what you think they mean or feel. “You seem reluctant to talk right now.” “You are really sad that you didn’t go to your friends house”. Listening can truly transform your relationships.
2 Be Kind
Getting angry and aggressive hurts you as much as it hurts your children. Staying calm and using kind words and actions will impact upon your child and yourself more than any other strategy you can apply. Do you respond better to kindness or anger?
3 Pick Your Battles
Do you spend all day being critical and nagging about anything and everything? Perfection is not required. When the bar is set high all the time, you leave little room for your child to ‘win’ and feel great about themselves or their accomplishments. Where is your focus – on the negative or the positive?
4 No Blame
As soon as you play the blame game your children will quickly fire up and react badly – what’s the point when you take sides or point the finger. You want your children to continue to communicate with you about the important issues. If you use “You always” or “You never” or even just “YOU” too much, there will be more fights and arguments than you can handle. Stick with simple facts to describe exactly what you see and eliminate blame.
5 Be Playful
When you are playful, you teach your children to have a light heart and not be so serious. It gives you the opportunity to repair tensions by bringing FUN back.
